Exchange Life Experience Summary ESCP Europe Paris

By Wan-Ju, Li (Judy Li)

**** Information about ESCP Europe Paris ***

Before I arrived at ESCP Europe Paris, the only thing I know about the school is from Wikipedia - “ESCP Europe was established in 1819 and the World's First Business School. ESCP was ranked 10th amongst European Business Schools in 2012 by Financial Times. In 2010, its Master in Management program was ranked 1st worldwide by the Financial Times while in 2012 it was ranked 2nd”.

I am like most of Asian students, choosing school based on its ranking. Of course, the reputation of the fashion capital is also a main reason I selected Paris. Two types of course choices for ESCP Europe Paris:

1. Advanced management electives, total 30-hr class, 10 weeks. 2. Introductory management electives, total 15-hr class, 5 week.

One very important information you shall know about selecting courses is ESCP Europe Paris does not allow students to add or drop courses once the selecting period time ends. I personally think this is a bad policy, but there’re more than 200 exchange students per semester and the course term is very short; it would be too much work if they allow exchange students to change classes and this might be the reason. So, please ask former students about courses before you complete your selecting process.

**** Course Selection ***

1. Marketing Research – I do not find the marketing research methods I learned from the class are useful; the way how professor teaches is not very interesting, either.

2. Customer Relationship Management – The class is only 5 weeks, and professor is Germen which means he is not very flexible on missing the classes. If you missed more than 1 class, you are getting a F grade.

However, interesting class to take and only 5 weeks :)

3. Brand Management – I love this class and professor. Very interesting and you have many opportunities to express your thoughts and experiences. Make sure you select this class on the first day because the seats are limited. However, professor is very nice. If you told him that you would really like to take this course, he will let you do it!

**** SIM Card ***

For sim card, you can buy it easily at any phone house; they have lots of locations in Paris. Most of my classmates use FREE company’s service (http://mobile.free.fr/); but I personally use Orange (http://www.orange.com/en/home) because it is the biggest mobile company in France which means the network coverage is bigger.

If you are only stay for 1 semester, you can choose sim card with pre-paid credit which is EUR 50 for 5 months. But the rate might be changed in the future; the best is to visit Orange stores for more details.

**** How To Take Bus/Train/Tram To Your Final Destination ***

You can find out how to travel from your house to any destinations by using http://www.ratp.fr/itineraires/en/ratp/recherche-avancee

**** Cheap Traveling ***

Take advantage of budget airlines like Ryanair and easyjet if you wanna travel. For EUROPASS, I personally do not think it is really cheaper. Here is the list of all the budget airlines in Europe. To sum up, Ryanair (Biggest) and easyjet (2nd largest in Europe)

**** Final Conclusion ***

Paris is an amazing city, so many things to offer. But I would like to remind you that everything is VERY $$$ here. Rent is at least EUR

600-900 per month. So, make sure your parents or yourself have enough saving to support your study. Enjoy Paris :)
